Environment:
Experienced Leadership Matters

On the Alameda City Council, Malia has tackled climate change head on.

In 2019, Malia passed an award-winning Climate Action and Resiliency Plan that aimed to reduce emissions 50% below 2005 levels by 2030. The plan also identified ways for Alameda to become carbon neutral as soon as possible through equitable improvements to transportation, buildings, energy use, and waste management, in order to combat sea level rise.

In January of 2020, Malia was proud of her work with Alameda Municipal Power to provide 100% clean energy to all customers starting January 1, 2020, placing Alameda in a select group of cities leading the nation in the transition to green power. AMP has achieved this milestone decades ahead of California’s goal of 100% clean power by 2045.
